TIMELESS BY DESIGN

Inside our clients’ Potomac, Maryland home, their 400-sf 1990s bathroom suffered from an abundance of space, geometric angles, and scale. While we originally set out to update the floor tile and create a larger shower, it became clear the bathroom needed replanning. For a striking visual on entry, we flipped the positions of the sinks with the shower and water closet, framing the tub with twin walnut vanities, oversized mirrors, and sconces. We replaced the oversized jacuzzi with a right-sized tub, centering it on the existing window to maximize natural light, and removed the steeply pitched ceiling that previously fought the window’s graceful curve. We brought the entire bathroom up to a single level, removing a step-down, and added large-format marble tiles that fit the space and reduce visual clutter. And in the adjoining his-and-hers closets, we removed curved walls that wasted precious storage space. The result is a timeless and traditional space whose grand elegance is in keeping with the house’s spirit and scale.
